FAQ

A Music Stick™ is a usb flash drive containing a full music album. Using Happy Place Music Player, fans can plug in their album directly to their phone, computer, or car via USB-C connection and listen instantly. With Happy Place Music Player (our free, fully private music player), fans can easily download or play directly on their phone, make playlists, utilize CarPlay, and more!

Music Sticks™ enable fan ownership and completely free listening of music (no ads, no subscriptions, no data theft) all while enhancing your revenue as an artist.

When a customer orders your album from our catalog, we produce the Music Stick™ using your files, metadata, and submitted artwork. We hold your revenue (retail – wholesale price) for two weeks after confirmed delivery of the order. This allows customers a window for returning the album or for defects with the drive, then we pay you as a 1099 subcontractor making everything easy to track for your business and ours.

You can also order Music Sticks™ in bulk. We produce the number you specify, then ship them directly to you. In turn, you can sell these Music Sticks™ at your shows, merch tables, or wherever your merch goods are sold. The revenue you generate from these sales is instantly in your pocket!

We accept all high-quality audio files (wav, FLAC, mp3, etc.). For best results, we recommend using CD-quality .mp3 files (128 kbps mp3). This allows fans to have high quality audio (far superior than even the best streamers) without overloading storage space on their devices. CD quality files are about 1MB per minute of music, so average 3 minute songs are about 3MB in size.

Each album (assuming 12 songs) comes out to roughly 36MB. 1GB of storage allows room for between 25 and 30 albums.

For Lossless albums and experiences, utilize 320 kbps mp3, WAV, or FLAC. WAV files can sometimes cause issues with metadata.

We utilize a program called Mp3tag to add all of the correct information to the song files including the Album Artwork, Artist Name, Songwriter Names, Album Title, Track Order and Names, etc. This ensures that fans and listeners who encounter our songs have all of the correct information ready to go, and their listening experience is as enjoyable as possible whether they play songs using Happy Place Music Player, or any other listening portal.

id3 tagging is the standard metadata format for audio files and is recognized as an international convention for properly adding information to audio files. Click here to learn more about the id3 standard.

In our tests with different file formats, WAV files did not cooperate well with id3 tagging. This was especially pronounced in our tests using the Android version of Happy Place Music Player. The WAV format delivers extraordinary sound quality, but the tradeoff is massive file size (upwards of 1GB per song) and diminished metadata capabilities.

FLAC files performed well and offer the advantage of being smaller than WAV with full metadata. High bitrate MP3 files are also an excellent option for discerning and audiophile fans.

Absolutely! We aim to make it convenient for you to order as many Music Sticks™ as you need for your tours and shows in your hometown. With our wholesale pricing of $8/stick, you clear $7 for each $15 retail stick sold, and you can write off the cost of creation as a business expense come tax time 🙂

This is one of the highest margin items you could sell. It gives ownership to your fans, and serves as a more intimate way to connect. Imagine playing one of your favorite venues, collecting the live recording, then offering those fans who attended exclusive access to that show as an easily accessible album they can play directly on their phones using Happy Place Music Player!

*Caveat: While we have no problem with artists creating their own “music sticks” (in fact we encourage DIY if that’s your thing), we kindly ask that you do not claim your DIY flash drive albums are official Music Sticks™ unless you get them through us. We aim to build a brand with integrity that people can trust, especially as we build our catalog and more fans come to buy their favorite music here.

If you are not a member of a Performing Rights Organization (PRO), you can verify song and album ownership by sending a screenshot of your logged in music distributor page (Distrokid, CD Baby, TuneCore, etc).

Our goal with artist verification is to mitigate fraudsters and help support and protect the real artists out there in the trenches of making music. The music landscape is bad enough with so many fake actors and AI works. We aim to help real artists make a better living and easily share their music with fans around the world.
